It is a RED letter day!

Yes, A RED letter day!

OK so not such a great picture, but a great story to share. And if you catch yourself smiling then I know we are one in alike. The other day I was getting into my car. I shut the car door. I could not get a good grasp??? What is that I say as my hand is pricked by a misplaced object??? I remove the object from the hand hold of the car door. I see a very scarred hair comb?? Not a hair comb that I have ever owned...a smile begins to grow as I come to realize that Dear Sweet Husband has become a gatherer! A gatherer of forlorn objects. I can not recall the number of times he has ribbed me as I bend to pick up an object. AND now dear friends, he has left an object that he scooped up. The object is really his love for me and my ways...it shows again how he supports me in all I do. As rough as the hair comb is, it will be lovingly place in an adornment I will cherish, just as he cherishes ME! I hope that you are cherished today and everyday and be sure to cherish back!

Junkin Monday a dollar at a time....

I am gathering ideas and finds for a new studio...I will have the new space in February. It comes to me at a sad time for a mom. My twenty year old son will be moving away. He has been attending college, living at home. Because he is the comedian of the family it has been great for the most part to have him at home...I did say that he is 20...no time for parents or family. He is leaving for boot camp at the influence of his closest of friends. So it is with sadness tempered with a hint of glee that I will be moving my studio into the much larger bonus room. I still hear his middle school, not yet burly voice calling for the room when we were looking to buy the house... so some of my finds are just hanging out waiting to see where they may fit in the new studio space...

This mirror was just $1.00 I adore the depth of it's gilded frame. It also had it's original label, always a bit of enjoyment to google to see what one may find.
A few stops along the way to the Saturday Farmers market. It was a good tool day for hubby. I don't mind...I have projects galore...It was dollar day for me. That candle stick I bought from a dealer. He bought it for 4 and sold it to me for 1....it was a rainy day and I think that he had had it along with the others. I bought the aluminum cups, seven in all, for...yep a dollar...they make great little scatter vases. The wicker bottle 1.oo....

Jack Daniels bottle in the loveliest pumpkin shape 75 cents. It still has all the tax labels as well as the taster labels

This rug...2.00

A dollars worth of ribbon

Vase 1.00, silk pillow cover 50 cents.

This little guy will join me in the studio...maybe if I set my tool on his tray I will remeber were I put it??? for 1.00 worth a try, nothing else has worked

This cute little carved number was 10 cents I love a good dollar day how about you?

Do little girls still wear robes? I love the colors in the patterns. My friends mom decided to sew herself a dress from a recent vintage pattern she had bought....it didn't fit...sizes have changed so much... I would hate to know what I would wear in a 1950's pattern size...I'm sure it is not a 10....sometimes not knowing is a good thing...I am off to visit fellow junkers

Shadow shot Sunday

There has not been a lot of shadows in my vision of late...not that I mind, I am enjoying the clouded sky's of fall. This morning I almost crashed into the car in front of me!!! I was caught up in the site of a white church steeple in contrast of the grey ombre clouds awash in the sea of Autumn.

This window was etched for me my dear sweet friend of mine.

The shadow was cught this morning as I climbed the stairs coffee in hand...be sure to heads over to Hey Harriet to enjoy more Shadow shots.....
This is the vision I am enjoying out my window as I create this post....enjoy your Sunday

Charleston cherub

I just love these images that I shot in Charleston. We were on a self guided garden tour. I took liberties to wander places that maybe were beyond the tour...I just had to have photos of this cherub that sat upon an fig ivy covered wall.....

I am going to use this image to paint on the wall behind that lovely window in my dining room. The room is not settled yet. When it is I will get out the paint brushes and add this cherub...

talk about over stepping your boundaries....this house had the worst looking door mat ever. I had my husband move it while I took the picture, let's just say it took some convincing to get him to walk up there and remove it......they will never know!

Gently cook the onions and garlic in the butter in a 4 quart pot over medium heat until the onions turn translucent, about 10 minutes.
Add the sweet potatoes and broth to the onion mixture; bring to a simmer, cover the pot, and keep at a slow simmer until the sweet potatoes have softened and are easy to crush against the side of the pot with a fork, about 20 minutes.
Add the jalapeno and roasted poblano chilies to the soup and simmer, covered, for 5 minutes more.
Heat the corn oil over high heat in a medium sized skillet until its surface ripples. Turn the heat down to medium-low and fry the tortilla strips for about 1 minute. Drain them on paper towels.
Puree the soup in a blender or put it through the fine disk of a food mill and strain it through a medium-mesh strainer. Stir in the lime juice to taste and season with salt and pepper.

Ladle the soup into hot bowls and drizzle the top of each one with the cilantro/olive oil paste, sour cream, and the tortilla chips. Serve with extra sour cream and lime wedges.

Uncanny festoon at its best!!!

I now love Mondays!!!

SO, we were off for a wonderful weekend of camping. Just the two of us. As we were unpacking the Mustang (a word of note: not a good camping vehicle.) my dear sweetie realized he had forgotten the camp chairs for fireside reading. We continue to unpack. He remembers that there is a Goodwill not to far, we will go there to see if we have any luck...well you know this girl isn't going to turn down a Goodwill hunting! As we walk in, me, ahead of him, a favorite color blue caught my eye! Robin egg blue! He spies them a tad bit after me...his thoughts OHHH NOOOO!
He sees that I adore the set of seven chairs. I am talking to a couple that also adores the chairs. I am thinking, ohh please don't pull that tag. The couple is talking about the vintage of the chairs. I really don't hear what they are saying....all I hear is please don't pull that tag!!!! (in my head of course, not out loud.) They leave, my dear sweetie approaches...his thought...DANG...they didn't pull the tag...he knows those chairs are headed home with us...he tries to talk me into leaving them and when we depart camping we could come back... he sees....that look...I really need to own these chairs.....Ok...you can buy the chairs....now how to get them home....
All seven for 49.99 with tax...under $8.00 a chair....

Robin egg blue Naugahyde on a chair frame suited for tapestry! Now that is Uncanny Festoon in it's truest form! I have been looking for chairs for our dinning room for some time. The dinning room is in a state of come togetherness. The chairs have been found. I can now search for the upholstery for the end chairs! So how did the chairs get home??? Not in the Mustang, as you see they are seven chairs...The lovely manager Joy..good name! Let us leave them till Sunday...way past the normal pick up time...MY dear sweet husband came home got the truck and went back and picked them up... the camp chairs ended up being puchased at Target

Here they are in the dinning room...the never been touched since we moved in 5 years ago dinning room....Here my dinning room to be are your lovely chairs!

And then of course there always must be some books...The Goodwill had some great old vintage books for $3.99.....

And finally....my find from last week is in the start of it's own little holiday vignette....
Now I am off to see what the Junkin Monday gal pals have found... you must check them out also...Just follow the link.
